Lizzie says of her photographs, ‘Flora is a series of photographs focused on colour. The series explores the link between close up details and the colours involved. An element of distortion remains throughout the work; this is a prominent feature in all my abstract photographs. This series marks a change in my practice; usually I would photograph the unnoticed and unappealing but instead have shifted my attention to objects that are noticed and appealing. This gives me a fresh perspective to my work and allows me to explore more technical aspects of my photography.

This series was shot using a Macro lens, allowing me to capture more detail and colour. Previous works focused on the shift in focus between pairings, and from that I decided to move on to instead show the detail this technique offered. I like the beauty of a close up shot, saturated colours and being able to see small intricate details amongst the loss of focus; this balances the distortion.

My photographs offer fresh perspectives that may change the way you look at the original place or object. I like the mystery of guessing what’s in an abstract photograph, for when you have little information it makes it harder to guess what something is. Guessing one thing could lead to another and you could still be completely off mark.  These aspects are what draw me to distort my photographs; I want to make them difficult to see but effortless to look at.’
