Next Jazz at the Apollo concert: Dennis Rollins Velocity Trio, Sunday 19 March, 3.00-5.30pm
This month the Newport Jazz Club is proud to present the much acclaimed Dennis Rollins Velocity Trio, featuring Dennis Rollins on trombone and Ross Stanley on Hammond organ. Unfortunately, the trio’s usual percussionist, Pedro Segundo, can’t appear, but his place will be taken by Tim Carter.
Tim is a drummer, guitarist, educator and composer based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. From his early teens he played in the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra and during that time he received various awards including an ‘outstanding performance’ award at the National Festival of Music. In 2008 he moved north to study drums at Leeds College of Music, graduating in 2011 with first class honours. A versatile and exciting exponent of the drums, he draws his influences from such pioneers as Jimmy Cobb, Max Roach, Brian Blade, Bill Stewart, Ari Hoenig and Eric Harland.
