As you may know, the Apollo Theatre Players have now been in existence for more than fifty years. The former Methodist chapel in Pyle Street, Newport, was purchased in September 1970 for the princely sum of £7,070, and the first performance took place in September 1972 after extensive renovation of the beautiful building. This season – 2022-23 – therefore represents fifty years since our first production – Robert Bolt’s ‘The Tiger and the Horse’ – and marks a remarkable moment in our history.
This, our 50th anniversary season, starts with a production of ‘Oliver!’, Lionel Bart’s wonderful musical interpretation of Charles Dickens’ ‘Oliver Twist’. Here are some of the other treats in store with links to the booking site.
